On Saturday, 20 December, the spotlight will be on excellent SPARKLING WINES BY MEDOT from Goriška brda, which will perfectly complement a 4-course menu prepared by Park’s master chefs, led by Chef Adi Blažko.
The Simčič family’s winemaking tradition dates back to 1812, a time when Goriška Brda was a poor region where local farmers faced nature’s constant challenges and scraped by selling wine and fruit. The vibrant, world-class wine scene that defines Goriška Brda today, now hailed as one of the most exciting emerging white-wine regions, owes much to Zvonimir Simčič of the Medot Homestead. In the postwar years, he played a pivotal role in shaping modern winemaking in the area, ushering in a new era of prosperity.His tireless advocacy for preserving and widely planting the rebula variety earned him the nickname “the Father of Rebula,” and his contributions to the region’s development led to his recognition as an honorary citizen of Brda.When he retired, he poured his lifetime of knowledge and experience into fulfilling a long-held dream: crafting a serious, traditional-method sparkling wine from rebula—one that could stand “bottle to bottle” with the finest champagnes. And so, Medot was born.
